Text clean and unmarked, binding tight, inscription inside cover from author, Cloth cover is very clean, dust jacket show little if any signs of wear. Born in Virginia he was to move to Texas and later California. Firebaugh has been documented in California as early as 1846 but he could have driven cattle into the state earlier from Texas. Once in the Great Central Valley he started a Ferry and later was the main contractor of the Pacheco Pass road. Always a wheeler-dealer in had many run ins with Henry Miller the great cattle king. Joaquin Murrieta, Henry Miller, Three Fingered Jack, Las Juntas life was fast and cheap in 1850's. The town of Firebaugh in the Califonira Great Central Valley is named in their honor.
