Mary Lewis, Moravian and Independent, was a bookseller/printer in business with her husband, son-in-law, and daughter at 1 Paternoster Row, 1756-91. Upon the death of her husband, John Lewis, in 1754, Mary Lewis took over his printing business and bookshop at 1 Paternoster Row, only a short distance from Joseph Johnson's bookshop in St. Paul's Courtyard. Though Ian Maxted describes her as 'Printer to the Moravians' (she was the exclusive London publisher of the works of the Moravian evangelist, John Cennick), Lewis was more likely a Calvinistic Methodist and later an Independent, her evangelical Calvinism being shared by her Particular Baptist friends, Joseph and Martha Gurney.
