Description:
St Paul's Churchyard: J. Johnson, 1794. In the introduction, the author states: " You have now, my dear son, nearly finished an education which has been conducted upon a plan best adapted to the present state of things..." ...I say, ...for the education of youth can only be preparatory to the pursuits of man..." A fascinating study of the times (late 1700's) and the education and expectations of both young men and their fathers. The father goes on to advise his son about art, prejudice, bigotry, philosophy, religion, mental and bodily diseases, etc. Book is in original calf and is good for its age. A name is inscribed on frontispiece in brown ink. There is some foxing on the pages. 18th century edition. Second Edition. Full-Leather. Good. 12mo - over 6¾" - 7¾" tall.
