Endpapers, frontis and title page foxed. Gutter cracking between the frontis and the title. The text block itself is sound, and the text has some foxing on the pages facing the illustrations.

The author's own copy, without his signature (we acquired this from Dr. Grove's estate). The text consisted of photocopied pages (as issued) with tipped in actual black and white full-page glossy photographs. "A Dissertation Submitted to the Faculty of the division of the Biological Sciences in Candidacy for the Degree of Doctor of Philosophy, Department of Physiology." Doctor Grove was a cardiologist in Greensboro, North Carolina.
