There is considerable wear to the dust jacket, which is torn in multiple places along the top and bottom edges. A chip is torn off of the top left corner of the jacket's front panel and is laid loosely inside the book. The jacket is also faded and rubbed. The book is sturdy and the text is clean and sound. Extensively illustrated with photographs, drawings and figures.

Blue marbled endpapers. The frontispiece is an actual photographic image or albumen print of George Mitchell with his facsimile signature beneath A sound copy with clean text. A very slim book. There are 3 pages of the Preface, a page showing a couple of lines of the music in facsimile (replicated on the front cover), 3 pages of the lyrics, and then three pages of "Notes of the Mitchell Famaily and George Mitchell's Recollection of the Song, "Lizie Lindsay." Scarce.

Hardcover bound in early quarter leather with green and tan marbled paper-covered boards. The binding is rubbed and worn but sound. The leather spine is solid. Rubbing along the edges of the binding, and the corners are bumped and worn to the boards beneath. Hinges secure. Complete with 2 front and 2 rear flyleaves. The text is tone and has occasional foxing or staining but overall is quite acceptable. Text is in German. This work does NOT contain scored music. A rough translation of the title is, "Spiritual Songs: With an Appendix, Consisting of Spiritual and Comforting Songs, by Various Poets." A nice early 19th Century Harrisburg, Pennsylvania imprint.

There is also a handwritten note from Mrs. Swailin and a brochure for the Benjamin and Maxine Swalin Lobby Dedication (2001). The note card, addressed to John (UNC Professor) and Ann Sanders, and asks for suggestions for titles of her new book. The book she authored was "Coming of Age in North Carolina's Fifth Century. The North Carolina Symphony, the People's Orchestra: A Brief History." This titles was one of the options listed in her note to John and Ann Sanders. Great association copy.
