Hunter Middleton.  Image is approximately 7.75 inches by 7.75 inches, hand-made paper is 9.25 inches by 11.25 inches, and the mat is 12 inches by 15 inches.  Print is unsigned, unnumbered,  and undated but was printed circa 1970.  R. Hunter Middleton operated The Cherryburn Press, a private press in Chicago, IL.

Edwards, A Gleaning of Natural History, Part 2, plate 264, 1758-1764. Edwards believed that the Black and Blue Creeper was also described as the Guira Coereba of Markgrave, History of Brazil and Willughby’s Ornithology. The Hoopoe Hen is from America.

Hand-colored lithographic plate, approximately 14.5 inches wide by 21 inches long. From: Gould, J., The Birds of Europe, 1832-1837, plate number 256. Image is of a Short-toed Ptarmigan, Lagopus brachydactylus (Temm.). Gould's The Birds of Europe documented native Europe birds to the same artistic standards that had been previously applied to foreign birds. This volume was the first time he worked with Edward Lear who was a master of painting live specimens of birds.

Image is taken from the Longman and Co. gilt-edge folio edition of Meyer's Coloured Illustrations of British Birds and their Eggs which was published 1835-1841, see W.G. Hale.  Image is of an Egyptian neophron or white scavenger vulture or pharaoh's chicken.
