This work presents the distribution of the Genus Opsiphanes and the description of new Brassoliden with synonymous notes. Opsiphanes is a genus of colorful butterflies of the family Nymphalidae found from Mexico to South America. Printed dedication from the author tipped in at the front.

Slight edge wear to cloth, some uniform age-toning to the text leaves with a touch of scattered foxing, the fine hand-colored plates are bright and clean with no browning or foxing; an attractive copy in very good condition.. Pp. xiv, 258; xix, 268, 124 fine hand-colored lithographed plates. Publisher's original wine red pebble cloth, spine gilt-lettered and with elaborate gilt floral decorations, front covers with gilt-pictorial image of moths, 4to. The fine hand-colored plates display the moths next to the plants and flowers they inhabit.

Tokyo: Koudansha, 1981.  First edition.. Fine copy in the original fine slipcase still in the publisher's pictorial shipping box.. Pp. 272, 48 full page fine color plates, 192 text-figures - 32 are in color.  Original blind-stamped orange cloth, in the original cloth-backed color pictorial slipcase (and in the publisher's shipping carton which also has a color pictorial title/author label), lg 4to.  Text in Japanese but with Latin names and some English phrases used throughout.  The volume has high manufacturing standards and is extremely scarce.  It is likely the most uncommon 20th century butterfly book - probably due to a print run of 500 or less copies.

Washington, Government Printing Office, 1893. First edition.. Spine is lightly sunned, a bright and clean copy in very good condition.. Pp. 424. Early green cloth, lettered in gilt on the spine, 8vo. This is Bulletin of the United States National Museum, no. 44. The Noctuidae or owlet moths are a family of robustly built moths that includes more than 35,000 known species out of possibly 100,000 total, in more than 4,200 genera. Some species of the family are preyed upon by bats. However, many Noctuidae species have tiny organs in their ears that respond to bat echolocation calls, sending their wing muscles into spasm and causing the moths to dart erratically. This aids the moths in evading the bats (from Wiki). From the research collection of Donald T. Ries with his signature on the title page dated 1928. The initials D. T. R. appear in gilt at the bottom of the spine and his signature appears on the bottom page edge.

This work is a detailed anatomical study of the head muscles of butterflies in the Papilionoidea. No ownership marks except for a date (7-31-62) and code number at the top of the front wrapper; there are no internal markings of any kind.

The Limacodidae or Euclidae is a family of moths in the superfamily Zygaenoidea or the Cossoidea; the placement is in dispute. They are often called slug moths because their caterpillars bear a distinct resemblance to slugs. They are also called cup moths because of the shape of their cocoons (from Wiki). No ownership marks and no signs of use.
