A few spots on rear cover. Book itself would be near fine except for the exlibris of the former owner on flyleaf. SIGNED and inscribed by the author on title page. He has drawn a line through his name, and written below : Seamus Heaney / 17th March 1971. Otherwise all correct, a quite attractive copy. First collection by this great Irish poet and 1995 Nobel Prize winner.

A new edition of a 18th c. work written in a lunatic asylum, first published in the modern era in 1939. However, Bond realized the 1939 edtion had wrongly arranged the poem, and that it should be read antiphonally. Bond re-arranged the 1939 work so the two parts are read in conjunctionas in Hebrew Poetry, making it far less less mad than the work first appeared.

Cover has green and red design on cream paper, with a "medallion" of a building with a walkway to it at the top. Title in green and red on cover. Slight wear to edges and corenrs, slight soiling to covers. Virtually no browning. An rather uncommon piece of Roycrofter ephemera.

Covers are illustrated cloth with padding over cardboard. the illustration reminds me of rays (fish) in water. The second of three volumes in this series. the Blossom songs are Chinese poems by Japanese writers, no later than 906 a.d.. The Sword songs are more modern, and entirely Japanese. Almost every page of the poems are illustrated by woodblock prints, beautifully colored, such as flowers, samurai, inns, sword making, Mount Fuji, furniture, etc. Uncommon.
