Some slight surface discoloration on covers. HINGES AND BINDING STRONG AND TIGHT. Contents includes introductions by Arthur M. Schlesinger and S.J. Perelman. This book was written in 1886, and contains biographical sketches of some 400 of the nation's leading criminals, including their photographs. Each biographical sketch details the crime committed and the circumstances leading up to arrest and conviction. This book is a chronicle of crime, a bizarre turn-of-the century rogues gallery of sneaks, embezzlers, murderers, men and women, as well as a serious study in statistics and sociology.
