A catalog to a 1992 exhibition of fine bindings created by members of the New England Chapter of the Guild of Book Workers, accompanied by photos of the books, as well as brief descriptions of the creators and their work. VERY GOOD condition. Some curling along the fore edge. Minor bumping to the extremities.

Also included is a collection of works by early colonial writers. In GOOD condition with uneven fading and minor offsetting to the wraps. Minor soiling with some vertical creasing along the fore edge and along the spine. A few small tears along the fore edges. Interior clean and solid with the front hinge beginning to split and separate along the upper front gutter at the title page.

GOOD condition. Uneven browning and offsetting to the covers, with splitting to the wrappers along the spine.

Bid sheet also laid in. Charles Heartman was an American bookseller, operating in Vermont and New York before relocating to New Jersey. He was noted for his knowledge and developments in the field of rare books, including African-American material (University of Southern Mississippi Libraries website). VERY GOOD condition. With a few title pages reproduced in the interior. A short history of the start of printing in New Hampshire, focusing mostly on the career of the printer Daniel Fowle and his relocation from Massachusetts to Portsmouth, New Hampshire in the 1750s. This includes a look at his first published book (Ames' Astronomical Diary), the New Hampshire Gazette, and his influence on other printers in the state, as well as a look at other printers in other regions of New Hampshire. GOOD condition, perhaps ex-library, with traces of a removed sticker from the lower front cover. Light pencil alphanumeric notation on the first endpaper. Some soiling, minor staining and general uneven offsetting/browning and fading to the wraps. Minor creasing, bumping and light chipping/tearing along the extremities.

Poor was a banker in the mid to late 19th and earlty 20th century, with the firm he established with his father becoming Standard and Poor's.
