Description:
Paris FRANCE. Very Good. 1650. Full-Leather. On offer is a simply superb, ancient, mid 17th Century manuscript book titled "Suitte du memorial on recueil de l'histoire de France, Louis treizeime", an epic 750+ page handwritten history of the reign of Louis XIII from the condemnation of his father's assassination in 1610 to his own death in 1643. The work, written in what is likely a 16th Century French monastic or ecclesiastical style hand, was created after the death of Louis XIII and in its writing shows the foundations laid for a clear path to domination of France by Louis XIV. The book appears to be an unpublished final manuscript prepared for publication as there are corrections and marginalia notes. The front pastedown boasts a contemporary Parisian ownership inscription to the top left and then centered below is the bookplate of John Smith Budgen Esq. The 23 x 16 cm. book has 377 hand numbered leaves with writing on both sides of the leaf for over 750 pages. The… Read More

Philologus Hebraeus : in quo pleraeque quaestiones generales philologico-Hebraicae, concernentes textum Hebraeum Veteris Test. dilucidè pertractantur : in sine adjunctus est catalogus Hebraicus & Latinus sexcentorum & tredecim praeceptorum, in quae totus. 1657. 8vo, original vellum, nice condition save for some general light soiling and the vellum boards are showing some curl. "Among the prominent Dutch Hebraists and theologians was Johannes Leusden, from the University of Utrecht. Description:
Good+. Original Vellum. On offer is a superb, original handwritten c. 17th century Latin manuscript book titled "LOGICA". This 340 pp handwritten manuscript is in two [2] sections "SYNTAGMA PHILOSOPHICUM", consists of 80 pp followed by a blank page, then "TRACTATUS SECUNDUS DE UNIVERSALIBUS" being 260 handwritten pages. Research suggests this book was a commission to a scribe of o no small talents copying the famed philosophical work by Pierre Gassendi, [1592-1655] of the same title SYNTAGMA PHILOSOPHICUM which was posthumously published in 1658. Alternatively there is also a 14th century work by John Wyclif entitled DE LOGICA and who wrote a subsequent work entitled TRACTATUS DE UNIVERSALIBUS. Further study will certainly provide full answers to the work. This book is 6" x 8 3/8" bound in full period vellum. The first 40 pages have some light stains along left hand margins with the bottom corner of the first page chipped off with no loss of text,… Read More

Description:
1699. On offer is a superb 17th Century handwritten Latin manuscript book: "Logica Metaphisica et Theologia Naturalia" ex libris "Chateau de Pointis". In three parts: 1) Ad Universam Philosophiam; 2) Philosophia Trancendantalis Seu Metaphisica; 3) Theologia Naturalis. Stunning, though flawed spine missing 3 inches of the leather gilt ornamented cap, severe rubbing to the edges, is illustrated with several flourishes in the 396 hand numbered pages, including 7 pages of manuscript index, 7 full page engraved [by Du Bois and C. Galle] plates. The work of an unnamed scrivener, nice calligraphic hand throughout the title page names one 'Geraldi Cavailher' who may have been the original author or indeed the scrivener though this is unlikely. Some spotting, some staining but overall G.. Full-Leather. Good. 6.25 X 5.5 X 2 IN.. Latin.
