New York: Harry N. Abrams, Inc., 1977 Beautiful brown hardcover, resembling leather, with gilt printing on the spine and a large gilt gnome on the front cover with the gilt bright and shiny. A tiny bit of shelfwear on the corners and spine heel, else fine. Autographed by the author on the Introduction and by both the author and the illustrator on the title page. The front and back endplates features identical color illustrations of a gnome feeding a bird and has a bookplate on the front cover with the former owner's name. The half title page has a gift inscription to the former owner and the date. Unpaginated with beautiful color illustrations throughout the text. The front flyleaf has a price in light pencil. Abrams, Inc., 1977 Beautifully illustrated hard cover with the band of adventurers climbing along the side of a mountain on the front, the dragon's hoard on the back and a white spine with black printing. The clear mylar dust jacket features the red dragon which is threatening the band climbing the mountain and has the dragon which is guarding it's hoard with Bilbo hiding behind a rock and white printing on the front and back. The covers are in almost pristine condition with a small depression on the front, hidden by the dragon and a tiny bit of wear, almost unnoticeable on the front lower edge, else fine. The dust jacket has no chips or tears, but does have a 2" crease on the back, else fine.
