Knopf, 1977 White cloth binding with a beautiful illustration of animals on a leaves background with black printing on the front cover and spine that is mirrored on the front and back of the dust jacket. No bumping or rubbing on the binding. The dust jacket has a small, 1/4", closed tear on the back top, and is encased in mylar which has a closed tear at the same place as the tear and a big chip in the plastic at the bottom of the back, else fine. 69 pages with b/w drawings, crisp, clean, unmarked and uncreased. The dust jacket is gold with blue illustrations and lettering on the front, back and spine. It is NOT price-clipped, but there are a couple of open tears, a small one at the head of the spine and a larger one at the bottom middle of the front. The author/illustrator has signed it, "Aloha Don Blanding on the 1st blank page which is the one following the flyleaf. Philadelphia: Henry Altemus No date anywhere in book, but research gave it at 1895. Beautiful green quarter-bound cloth on spine with gilt imprinting and illustration. Front and back cover is a beautiful off-white cloth with intertwined flowers and leaves. The corners and edges of the front and back have been bumped and rubbed through the cloth. The spine head and heel have been bumped and starting to fray. Staining/soiling on the front and back covers. The inside has two previous owner's signatures on the flyleaf and a small amount of writing on the front pastedown. The 149 pages are clean, crisp, unmarked and uncreased, except for a crease at the bottom right-hand corner of page 115. A good book from a non-smoking household. Gilt printing on the spine. The spine head iand the top and front edges have a few small chipped places, else fine. Front and back endplates and flyleaves are an attractive marbled brown and gold paper. The frontispiece, by W.T. Smedley, is protected by tissue paper. 217 front deckled-edged, top gilt-edged pages which are clean, crisp, unmarked and uncreased, although they are beginning to show just a hint of yellowing, else fine. Only the title "LITTLE LIZZIE AND THE FARIES" imprinted on the front cover and interestingly, it is spelled "FARIES" on the cover and "Fairies" on the title page. Head and foot of backstrip frayed, Pp. 68, with general title and contents leaf referring to the title Six Pleasant Companions ..., frontispiece, title-page and contents leaf referring to the present collection of articles, and numerous text woodcut illustrations. The full title adds the words "And Other Tales." which are by various contributors, many unidentified. As it was never taken out of the box, this is just as it came from the publisher. Unpaginated, with illustrated back and front endplates. A good copy of this fragile children's book of poems from Father Goose set to music by Alberta N. Hall. 26 songs, with music and full-page b/w illustrations by W.W. Denslow. Boards little soiled, corners bumped with some cover loss. The pages are starting to tan; a few of the pages have a couple of small stains; a few of the pages have had the top corner creased; a few pages have small closed tears; and one page has an open tear at the top outer corner.
