Description:
Johannesburg: Voortrekkerpers, 1967. First English Language Edition. Octavo (21.25cm.); original boards in brown pictorial dust jacket; 154pp.; plain photographic frontispiece, 7 plates of facsimiles and photographs printed on rectos and versos. Dust jacket a touch edge worn, else Fine. Originally published the same year in Afrikaans under the title 13 Jaar in die Skadu van Dr. H.F. Verwoerd. Personal memoir of South African Prime Minister Verwoerd by his private secretary. Verwoerd, who was assassinated the previous year, is best known for engineering and implementing apartheid in 1948. Rather overly obsequious portrayal of "that man," endearingly described in the opening page as "that 'irresponsible Beserker of a Minister of Bantu Affairs whose misconceived policies would yet be the ruin of South Africa...'" (p. 9).
