Of an edition limited to 75 copies, this is hand-numbered copy 27. Further, this is one of "20(ish)" that were "bound in boards using a secret Belgian binding." In addition, the author has added his initials "RC" in pen, with "a plates a plate!" Slight soiling to front board; withal, bright and fresh. Dada-esque ruminations on the author's enigmatic essence, being that of a "uniformist." On the copyright page the author offers thanks to Gaylord Shanilec.

A curious publication, lacking the two plates called for, and with the quires bound out of sequence. While all leaves are present, the pagination is non-sequential. Vol. I frontis. author portrait engraving with tissue guard. Full red morocco, gilt decorations front and back, gilt titles in panels on the spines, gilt tops. Title and section initial caps in red. Chipboard slipcase covered in dark green paper. Colophon: "By special arrangement Linotype original Baskerville was used in this book for the first time. Printed on Worthy rag paper by William Edwin Rudge at Mt. Vernon, N. Y. December 1930. Typography and binding by Frederic Warde." Spines minimally soiled and ends rubbed. Case rubbed and scarred. A handsome set from master printer Rudge II (1876-1931) during his golden era with designers Warde and Bruce Rogers. This was the final title in his series of Christmas books first issued in 1920. The Linotype Baskerville revival was cut by George W. Jones in 1923.

Laid in clipping from October 6, 1951 Publishers' Weekly article on AIGA trade book clinic quoting Lustig. Board edges just a tad rubbed, else crisp and bright. Glassine jacket chipped, creases and closed tears. Publication was made possible by Elaine Lustig Cohen in memory of Alvin 1915 - 1955.

(The last two are from Elbert Hubbard II after senior's death.) Also one Roycroft-style leaflet from The Ivy Press, Seattle and a 1901 W. W. Denslow caricature "John de Luxe," Supplement of The Erudite, September, 1901. The notes are dated October 1903 to October 1916. Broderick's inscription to a prominent Seattle attorney: "To George Rummens / A Very Valued Friend / Henry Broderick / April 22, 1936".A whimsical take on a serious subject, "the Big House" in Walla Ditto. Broderick, the Seattle real-estate magnate, served on the State Parole Board. Herein he dispenses with his experiences and suggestions for penal reform. Printer Frank McCaffrey provides clever design; the binding -- in the "prison blues" -- is a masterstroke. Full cloth binding -- using denim from prison-issued clothing.
