Original cloth binding with gilt lettering and black decoration, worn, faded and marked, spine faded and rubbed, cloth starting to fray to head/tail, edges worn and rubbed. Contents good and more or less clean, a little finger soiling and slight spotting, front hinge cracked, binding somewhat shakey. A fair copy..

Two pages of publisher's adverts to the rear. Original hardback binding, front board only, paper covered board with significant remains of original printed paper adhered to board, roan leather to the spine with gilt, now craked in several places and areas missing. This item requires rebinding or to be placed in a solander box since it is now held only by the cords in several parts. Contents clean and tight, minimal marking, paper bright with no foxing, neat ink signature to the top of the front free endpaper. A very good copy of this rare collection of tales. (Bibliographic reference Osbourne Collection TPL page 595) It is interesting to note that Copac lists 2 both with only 20 plates, auction records are scarce for this title with only two in the last ten years..

Regretably the title page and leaf 59/60 are missing and probably adverts, starts on page 1 otherwise appears complete; pp. 63, b/w woodcut illustrations throughout. (Printers named in colophon: Edinburgh: printed by W. and R. Chambers) A prvious owner has dated his name 1839 to the inside front cover so probably a 1838 edition. Orginal brown flexible cloth covers good with a little general wear and rubbing, slightly marked. Contents clean and tight, some loss to the bottom edge and inside edge of leaf 57/58 with the loss of around 15/20 words, a few short edge tears and smal chips, some corners tips bent over, the odd one missing, edges with some general reading wear. A good copy but for the missing pages..

Rowlandson that appeared in Warne's "Baby Animal Book" (in Warne's 'Popular Picture Books Series'). The book and illustrations are not dated but Copac give 1925 as the publication date. The illustrations include the cover design (with attached but separate typography), White Persian Cat; Turkey and Geese; Cow and Calf; Shetland Ponies; Rabbits and Parrots. A copy of the original book is also included. The illustrations are in watercolour on thick card; all are signed G. D. Rowlandson or initialed G. D. R. The dimensions are approx. 135 x 230mm; the cover illustration is larger format measuring 260 x 300mm; each has a contemporary brown paper protector. All are in very good condition.
