A prayer book in a very attractive, straight grain Morocco binding, heavily gilt decorated, gilt to the front and rear boards, extensive gilt to spine and turn ins; binding firm. The title page to book of Common Prayer dated 1779; illustration and title page to A Companion to the Altar; title page to Psalms of David 1787. No date, but bound in at the back is "A New Version of the Psalms of David fitted to the Tunes Used in Churches" dated 1845, though the Book of Common Prayer looks earlier. Copper engraved title page, copper engraved frontispiece of "Praise the Lord upon the harp..." with 7 furthe copper-engraved plates. Contemporary tan, full straight-grained morocco binding with gilt decoration to the spine and black spine label, straight cloth binding with gilt lettering, binding very good with slight rubbing to extremities. Original straight-grained morocco binding, four raised bands to the spine, gilt and blind-stamped decoration to spine and boards, gilt dentelles in a Greek fret pattern. Extensive gilt decorated borders to all edges of the front paste-down. Binding good and strong with a little general wear and some rubbing, corners lightlly worn. Inner hinges in blue morocco, the front hinge with minor damage, but not affecting the integrity of the hinge. Contents clean and tight; original grey-coated endpapers. Front blanks with some spotting; title page lightly marked, otherwise pages clean and crisp. A very good, bright clean copy.
