This book is the First edition of Line upon Line; or, a Second Series of The Earliest Religious Instruction... It was published in 1837 in the original publisher's binding with the title : LINE FOR LINE. Pt. I . This is the only indication that it is Part 1 of a two part volume except for the Publisher's note following the last page (346), which reads: Will shortly be published, by J. Hatchard ....The second volume of Line upon Line; Which will conclude this series of Instructions.

This Fourth Edition, dated 1837, which genuinely can be considered as a "First thus", includes a preface to the Third Edition in which the author states that she has added: "some verses illustrative of each subject".In addition to the 1833 First Edition is added "The Author's Apology".
