Oberleitner's updated Latin version of Jahn's seminal work on Aramaic in Chaldean-Syriac. Jahn was a prominent Orientalist and Biblical Scholar at the University of Vienna. Small octavo. 3/4 leather with contemporary marbled boards, rubbed at all edges, front board detached, spine tips dry and fraying, old spine label, spine gilt fairly bright and still legible. Old library stamp on title page and contemporary inscription, bright yellow endpapers. Paper is sturdy but somewhat foxed. Page 11 has a 2" tear at the gutter top, not affecting text. Page 39/40 has a 4" x 1" lack at the fore-edge, not affecting text but the lack does go right up to the text border. Otherwise some dog-earing and small stains, but no writing or other marks. Assyriologist Carl Bezold's ( 1859-1922) abridged survey of the Babylonian-Assyrian literature, together with a chronology and an index to the cuneiform tablets at the British Museum. Bezold was well known for his work with the British Museum, and was a pioneer in Babylonian astronomy. A very scarce book. Half leather with blue marbled boards. Spine is dry and very chipped, with most of the leather gone, although the gilt title is still present and quite legible.
