The book is in fair+ to good-minus condition (for a 100-year-old children's book!). The covers are rubbed along the edges and corners, brown cloth spine cover is cracked in a few spots and a bit worn. Interior pictorial end papers have some gluing ripples and general age, with some pencil erasures. Some of the pages are starting to loosen especially at the bottom gutter. Some of the plates have some chipping along the fore - or bottom edges with loss to the black borders. Text pages are a bit toned and one page has incipient cracks near the gutter. Binding is shaken but holding. This is a very scarce Aldin title about a family of rabbits and their friends and adventures. Blue hard boards with a doll in yellow walking with a toy Captain of the Guard. Boards are rubbed at the edges, blue cloth spine a bit worn. Interior missing first blank, old cello tape at front hinge which has yellow and split. The book features dolls and toys at play with rhyming captions, pictures are illustrated on one side with uncoloured mirror image so the child can copy the colouring. About one-third of the blank images have been coloured in (quite well, we might say! ) , while a few have partial colouring, and some are still blank. Last blank present, a few small foxing marks, paper is creamy, one page edge has a small chip, pages not coloured in are generally clean and nice. Beige card covers with Pinocchio running through a green landscape with a dog, a red parrot, a fox and other animals. Covers a bit darkened, worn at the corners. Interior paper somewhat browned, owner's name in pencil and pencil English translations in the margins of the first few chapters, otherwise clean and unmarked. A bit fragile but still holding together. Gorgeous cream and brown illustrated end papers Illustrations by Luigi E. M. Augusta Cavalieri are really magnificent. Brown paper dust jacket with red lettering and b/w illustration of a magic personage on a horse with a little girl. DJ is browned with chips and edge wear, dj spine has some humidity staining and chipping at tips, front flap price clipped. Book itself is linen, quite clean, interior first end papers have browning from the dust jacket flaps, gift inscript, otherwise clean and nice. A scarce title at all, very scarce with the dust jacket -- which is worn but still quite intact. Boards are quite rubbed at corners, marbled paper torn off front board at upper left corner and scuffed and worn on back cover. Interior front end paper has remains of old church library label, , title page and plate quite foxed, foxing and age throughout, stitching showing and binding a bit fragile but holding, corner of one page torn off at bottom edge not affecting text. Aged but still a charming Sunday School story, very Victorian.; 16mo - over 5¾" - 6¾" tall .

Another wonderful children's book from the author of The Enormous Egg -- our young hero travels to France to help an archeologist and discovers a deep cave with prehistoric drawings...and a very strange old man. Dark red hard covers with black embossed image of a house. Edges rubbed, spine joints rubbed and just starting to separate. Interior green end papers with aprons, witches' hats, brooms and "plum pudding surprise" . Rear has removed library pocket remains, half title old owner inscript, verso of title page has library stamp, a small stain to the fore-edge, otherwise nice. A classic and satisfying story about trying to fit in, meeting other people who don't quite, and finding out the world is an interesting place. The DJ has a short clean tear at the front cover, some rubbing at extremities, protected in Mylar. Front flap has been price clipped. Book itself is clean and unmarked, interior clean and unmarked. This is the true first edition of Helen Griffiths wonderful story about "La Bruja", the horse born on the South American pampa, a cross between a thoroughbred and a wild pony. While she was still a foal her mother was killed by lightning and La Bruja learnt early to fight for her existence and grew into a fierce, independent creature whose mixed parentage bequeathed her a strangely ugly face but wonderful fleetness of foot.
