Michael Harrington (1928-1989) was a leading democratic socialist, best known for his book "The Other America" about poverty in the U.S. In the present volume he dissects American cultural and intellectual life.

The lead article, "The Approaching Election," is sympathetic toward the Socialists but acknowledges that a Republican victory in 1948 is "almost certain." (Wrong). There are also several articles by the mystic Corinne Heline on New Age Bible and movie interpretations and on Joseph Haydn and Sergei Rachmaninoff, who were born under the sign of Aries. SCARCE.
