Zurich, Leipzig: Orell Füssli Verlag, 1929. First Edition, First Printing. Small Octavo (7 5/8 x 5 inches; 193 x 127 mm), 16 pages (text) and 71 pages (photos), in illustrated boards, titles in black to spine. No dust jacket.
An interesting look at Soviet revolutionary films, including Battleship Potemkin and Ten Days That Shook the World, all from a Soviet viewpoint. The text is in German but the bulk of the book comprises some often-striking stills from the films. The author, A.W. Lunatscharsky (1875-1933 and sometimes rendered as Lunacharsky), was People's Commissar of Education Enlightenment.
There are actually 74 black-and-white images in the book, not 64 mentioned on the cover or 67 on the title page.
CONDITION: Some age-toning and foxing to the end papers and text leaves. Board edges lightly rubbed. A Very Good copy.

An illustrated booklet on comic actor Igor Ilyinsky (1901-1987) in the Kinopechat series. Ilyinsky was associated with the Meyerhold Theatre, most notably as Bruno in Fernand Crommelynck's "Magnanimous Cuckold." He also was active in early Soviet cinema and won the Stalin Prize several times for his film roles.
This pamphlet is entirely in Russian and contains seven black-and-white photographs (in addition to the photo on the upper wrapper). OCLC shows seven institutional holdings. SCARCE.
CONDITION: Pencil notations under two photographs, soiling to wrappers, toning to pages. Overall, about Very Good.

Description:
Paris: André Paulvé et les Films du Palais Royal, 1950. A binder containing 18 gelatin silver film stills (8" x 10") of dramatic moments from Jean Cocteau's 1950 film Orphée, his Symbolist/Modernist interpretation of the Greek myth of Orpheus, starring Jean Marais and Juliette Gréco. With one original "lobby card" (8.75" x 10") from the film's French release in 1950. The film stills were likely printed later.Also included in the binder is a program (8 x 10 ¼) for a 1963 American university tour, sponsored by the French government, of two plays: Cocteau's Orphée as well as Jean Giraudoux's L'Apollon de Bellac. There's also a mimeographed synopsis in English of the two plays. A scarce and unusual collection of French film and theatre ephemera. CONDITION: The original lobby card is creased at the edges and corners with pushpin holes to the corners. Film stills in Fine condition, although a couple have light creasing in corners. Program has some creases and rubbing. Overall, Very Good or better.
