Originally from Perugia, daughter of an influential politician twice a senator in Rome as well as podestà in Florence and Bologna, she was baptized with the name of Elena. She also endowed with a remarkable humanistic culture, although she was already betrothed, in 1442 she decided to flee on horseback to Foligno, where she entered among the Poor Clares in the monastery of S. Lucia, where she took the name of Cecilia. She contributed to bring this community back to a more strict observance of the Rule, and for the same reason Pope Nicholas V sent her with other sisters to reform the monastery of S.
