Description:
New York: Charles Scribner's Sons, 1915. 1st Edition 1st Printing. Hardcover. Very Good/No Jacket. 8vo - over 7¾" - 9¾" tall. 1915 FIRST PRINTING of First USA Edition (printed with the first UK sheets = nearly identical to the first UK printing with same binding covers). Original tan buckram covers, two original leather title patches spine with gilt lettering, TEG, untrimmed fore-edge and bottom-edge as issued. Overall a better than average condition example of this book that usually suffers condition problems, especially to the title patches and page foxing. This example has clean covers, no previous owner marks or writing on any pages, darkening to spine, some scuffing to leather spine patches but no loss (they frequently chip), solid binding, particularly uncommon being without foxing on pages or plates. The book measures 270mm tall x 187mm and has 250 pages +[2], 49 b/w photos, index. PHOTOS ARE OF THE ACTUAL BOOK BEING OFFERED.

Description:
Philadelphia: John W. Leas, 1924. 1st Edition 1st Printing. Hardcover. Fair/No Jacket. 1925 FIRST EDITION. Rebound EX-LIBRARY book with many library stamps and library marks. Patterned green library cloth (very ugly, depending on taste), spine number, EP pocket, thumb marks on a few pages, folding plates needlessly cello-taped at folds. Before being rebound the text block was stupidly trimmed causing loss of the captions on several of the photos. Full collation of the book by me (every page) reveals that 2 photo plates, one smaller map and the big folding map at end ARE MISSING and have been REPLACED with photocopies from originals. Overall a working copy with full text and better photo quality than that found in the subpar recent paperback reprint which has low quality photo/map reproductions (reduced in size and awkwardly lumped together). PHOTOS ARE OF THE ACTUAL BOOK BEING OFFERED.
