A collection of of stories originally printed in chap-books in the eighteenth century (though some would be older than that). Mostly traditional tales such as Dick Whittington, Jack the Giant-Killer, Robin Hood and others; but also comical ones such as "Paddy from Cork", and the Wise Men of Gotham; also the story of one Peter Anderson from Aberdeen, who was captured by Indians in America. 350pp plus 12pp adverts.. Nine stories by the author, based on traditional folklore and superstitions of the Western Isles of Scotland, some are traditional tales re-told by the author, who has, according to his foreword, "often to have taken very great liberty in the way of alteration and addition". Inscribed by the author on page before half-title "To Nurse Young / with kind regards from the Author / Yarrowlea 1st Dec/38".
