Description:
New York: Warner Books, 1994. First Edition Thus. . Hardcover. Fine/Near Fine. Victor Juhasz. It's 10:30 on Christmas Eve at the 87th Precinct where Detective Steve Carella is typing a report when fellow detective, Cotton Hawes arrives with two men and a shopping bag full of pot, derisively described by one of the two as "frankincense" and by the other as "myrrh." Shortly thereafter Detective Meyer Meyer herds in a teenaged boy and a sheep, the boy claiming he isn't a shepherd but the sheep is a gift for his sister. And the reader is off on a rollicking tale with at least a few parallels to the original Christmas, including a young Puerto Rican and his even younger, pregnant wife, who gives birth just after midnight. Published originally as a short story in "Playboy" magazine in 1984 before Warner Books dressed it up in 1994 in a slipcase instead of a dustjacket, the slipcase having a diecut window displaying the Christmas tree on the book's front cover.…

Description:
New York: Madison Books, Inc., 1961. First Edition, First Printing. . Hardcover. Very Good/Issued Without Jacket. Volume 1, Number Two of a quarterly hardcover magazine devoted to "guns in history and in sport." The theme in this issue is marksmanship. The authors consider the function of the gun and how it can be fully realized only in the hand of a man skilled at hitting the mark -- whether a paper target as in one article, a game animal or bird as in another, or a military enemy, an affronted gentleman, a horse opera villain, a monolithic law enforcer or a psychopathic law breaker in succeeding stories. The 10 1/4 x 13 1/2" 98-page text, lavishly illustrated with color and black & white photos, artwork and diagrams, is clean and unmarked, tight and square. The 10 1/4 x 13 1/2" covers, showing a woodcut of dueling 19th century gentlemen, is moderately worn along the spine and edges with somewhat more wear at the corners as is not unusual in an oversized format. Collectable.

Chicago: Globe Association, 1907. Hardcover. Good Plus to Very Good. This 1907 compendium, probably culled from the newspapers and popular magazines of the day, is subtitled, "Our Marvelous Progress in Science Inventions and Commerce." For the curious, it is a fascinating collection of ideas and machinery on the right track, perhaps, but still a ways from the finish line, whether it was automobiles, wireless telegraphy on lighter-than-airships, or the tallest building under construction in NYC, 48 stories or 740 feet, base to top. This is the modern world, just over 100 years ago. Sold by subscription, this volume is about 7 x 9 1/2 inches, 336 pages bound in red cloth-covered boards with gilt lettering and graphic design on front cover. Sorry, no dustjacket. Includes numberous b & w photo reproductions as well as an index and review questions for home study. Gilding on covers is worn and boards show moderate surface and edge wear but no significant damage beyond a nickel-sized spot on…

The 1949 edition of the catalogue of this New York City-based family firm that provided fine and rare woods and the "know-how" for using them to woodworkers and other craftspeople.
