First edition hardcover with dust jacket, published by Pantheon, 1987. 224 pages of his distinctive single panel political and social cartoons from the three time Pulitzer Prize winner. Each chapter also includes a brief essay from the author. The dust jacket has been price clipped, though it has been protected with a clear, removable cover. Jacket only has one small closed tear at the back lower edge, about 1/4" long. 7-1/2" X 9-1/2", black boards with the author name and title imprinted in silver on the black cloth covered spine. Boards are flat, the corners are not bumped or creased. There is a square of discoloration on the first flyleaf, where a newspaper clipping had been stored - about 6" X 6" light brown spot. Almost all of the cartoons are single panel, with one being a strip from Webster's 'The Timid Soul'. 151 pages, 6-1/4" X 9-1/2". Tan cloth covered cover boards, with illustrated cover and the title imprinted on the cover and spine in dark brown. No dust jacket. Cover boards have smudges from use, some stain spots on the lower right front, and stain spots on the back cover as well. No former ownership marks, no writing on the text pages. Edges of the text block are relatively clean. Pages 17 and 19 have a 2 inch tear a the bottom edge. Some spots of age tanning to the text pages, which would be common to this book considering the type of paper used. Not a library discard. Attached photo is of the copy we have in our inventory.
