Description:
Chicago: Rand McNally & Co., 1958. Hardcover. Good/No Jacket. 8.25 x 6.5. These are hard to date, but the 35 cent price printed on the front cover indicates an early reprint. The interior of the book is clean, showing only light wear. The bottom corner of the second last page has been ripped off, and there is a small stain on the bottom of the title page and bottom of the back cover. The few small edge tears have been mended with archival tape, and are not very noticeable. The pictorial laminated covers are bright and fresh, except for one small brown stain on the front panel. The covers show only very light edgewear at extremities and are overall very attractive, with a picture of a cowboy roping a steer on the front, and a list of Elf books (ending with "The Children that Lived in a Shoe") on the back.

Description:
New York: Dodd, Mead & Co., 1950. First Edition . Hardcover. Very Good/Very Good. The interior of the book is crisp and clean, showing no marks or wear. The black cloth covers are fresh, with just a bit of light wear. The dust jacket is price-clipped, but is also in very good condition, with minor wear (but no rips, chips or tears), and some soiling visible on the back panel. A very nice copy. The jacket is now in a protective mylar cover. Synopsis: "Clark Tinsley, who had just inherited the second biggest ranch in the valley, knew he was coming to the Sweetwater country in a time of trouble. It was ironic that in a country desperately in need of water, stockmen should have a river flowing past their door but running so deep in its gorge that it was of liitle use. A scheme sponsored by some of the big ranches to build a high dam and a series of canals was opposed by the smaller outfits who were afraid to surrender their natural water rights. The local banker and cattle king were amused to… Read More

Description:
New York: Avalon, 1956. First Edition . Hardcover. Very Good/Very Good. 7.75 x 5.25. A crisp and lovely copy of a popular cowboy story. The interior of the book is clean and unmarked, without even the name of a former owner. The grey cloth covers are still fresh, but do show some black marks caused by the edge of the plastic protector, and a bit of bumping to the extremities. The DJ is in perfect condition, because it is encased in one of the "Plasti-Kleer" covers which, according to the front flap, are used on all Avalon jackets. It is this orginal cover which has left some small marks on the bottom of the boards.

New York: Doubleday, 1987. First Edition . Hardcover. Near Fine/Very Good. This is a stated first edition, and in very nice condition. The interior of the book is clean and fresh, with no signatures, wear or marks. The black covers show just a touch of wear at tips and corners. The dust jacket is price-clipped, but is otherwise also in very good condition, looking almost new. The jacket is now in a protective plastic cover, and looks very attractive. Synopsis: "The simmering resentments of a recently quelled Apache uprising were still evident. A corrupt band of white contractors and freighters known as the Ring had been stealing from the government and the Indians for years. A renegade named Geronimo was carving a reputation for ferocity and hatred that frightened Apaches and white men alike. And at the center of it all was the Indian Reservation at San Carlos, Arizona. London: Century Publishing, 1981. Hardcover. Very Good/Very Good. The interior of the book is clean and tight, with no marks or wear. The paper has darkened slightly, but this is the only flaw. The black covers are also clean, with minor wear at tips and corners. The gilt spine lettering is still bright. The dust jacket is price-clipped, again showing light wear, with two short (under half inch) closed tears -- one on the front panel, and one on the rear. The attached scan should give a better idea of condition. The jacket is now in a protective mylar cover. Author's Note: This book is linked to two of L'Amour's series: "Milo Talon's mother, Em, was a Sackett, and, in fact, an earlier adventure featuring Milo and Em, A Man From the Broken Hills, is grouped with the Sackett novels as published in America. But beginning with this novel and continuing on ... I hope the Talons will begin to stand on their own. You'll find more background on the Talon family in Rivers West… Read More
