Between 1824 and 1826, he published his History of the Protestant Reformation, a broadside against the traditional Protestant historical narrative of the British reformation, stressing the lengthy and often bloody persecutions of Catholics in Britain and Ireland. At this time, Catholics were still forbidden to enter certain professions or to become members of Parliament. The law was no longer enforced, but it was still officially a crime to attend mass or build a Catholic church. The present work consists of an influential and controversial series of exegeses and meditations upon the Epistles of John, Jude and James. It is particularly noteworthy that Imler does not use the Latin Vulgate translation for his commentaries, but uses a Protestant Latin translation instead. Guido de Monte Rochen's Manipulus curatorum is considered the most important of the medieval pastoral manuals. (It was not made obsolete until the Council of Trent in 1566.) It is especially important as a key example of the intersection of religious doctrine and practice. The author attempts to make centuries of theology and canon law comprehensible for the priest of little learning and, in turn, for his parishioners. No other work did this as successfully. Binding slightly bent; title page a bit dusty; a few leaves misnumbered in manuscript; o/w a fine copy with large margins of this rare incunable. No known copies in the United States.

It is also said that Jacob succeeded his father as the rabbi of the Jewish community of Toledo (Zacuto), while others say his brother Judah ben Asher did so. Coleridge explored the necessary conditions for social stability – what he termed Permanence, as distinct from Progress, in a polity – stressing the importance of a shared public sense of community, and national education.It also contains his thoughts on the use of The Bible as a guide for political administration. Written as a reaction to the post-Waterloo depression in England, The Manual and was not particularly well received. According to Kierkegaard, an individual is "in despair" if he does not align himself with God or God's plan for the self. In this way he loses his self. Kierkegaard defines humanity as the tension between the "finite and infinite," and the "possible and the necessary." While humans are inherently reflective and self-conscious beings, to become a true self one must not only be conscious of the self but also be conscious of being created by a higher being, God. Lancelot Andrewes was an English clergyman and scholar, who held high positions in the Church of England during the reigns of Queen Elizabeth I and King James I. He was in turn Bishop of Chichester, Ely and Winchester, and oversaw the translation of the Authorized (King James) Version of the Bible. His Tortura Torti - a learned work which grew out of the Gunpowder Plot controversy - was written in answer to Roberto Bellarmino's Matthaeus Tortus which had criticized James I's oath of allegiance.
