Your bookseller acquired this print and another many years ago. It's now a scarce print as to the market. I am estimating the year the print was made as there is now indication and I find no record. Brazoria, Valasco: Brazoria County Abstract Company, 1909. Soft cover. Very Good. Folded set of original legal papers pertaining to September 2, 1909, transfer of property in town or city of Valasco, County of Brazoria, Texas, which is south of Houston on or near the Gulf of Mexico. First document is dated August 1, 1891, and describes the property referencing a map (not present) in which Austin Park, Riverside Park, and Sam Houston Park are mentioned. Document references Texas Land and Immigration Company. The most recent page & presumably most, if not all the others, describe the property as Lots 8 & 9 in Block 636 "town of Velasco." There are around a dozen types/printed sheets folded, some with signatures of various officials. In the last document, Mrs. Margaret Albrecht is conveying the property to Sarah B. Stevens, et. Al. Texas Student Pub. Inc., Univ of Texas, Austin, 1940, 1940. First Edition. Hardcover. Good-. 4to textured & pictorial fabrikoid with gilt lettering. 528pp. Illust. Yearbook of the Univ. of Texas, so-called "Texas Literature Number". A number of sections of the yearbook were introduced with brief segments from famous Texas historians of the Old West & the Texas Republic, etc.. Dobie wrote a column of information on each historian. Condition: good. A number of the glossy pages in the rear part of this heavy volume were stuck together at the top corner near the binding. Impossible to separate cleanly, some pages have some abrasion or thinness in that restricted area. Last leaf has a torn chip at that corner 1 1/2" x 1 1/2". There is no loss of text. Priced accordingly. A surprisingly rare Dobie item. Not in McVicker.

In 1933 the first edition of this title was published but cost-cutting trimmed 13,000 words from the author's manuscript. These are restored in this lovely volume edited by Kenneth Jacobs and with a new introduction by A. C. Greene. Fine, as new. No dj as issued.

There are occasional ink comments that could be contemporary with the book. One such is on the title, where the owner adds three words at an angle above "MEXICAN" "___ ___ good" Several little notes in the same hand are on the Contents page. The hinges of this copy have been professionally repaired & the book is tight. There is general light to moderate foxing throughout and several preliminary pages have stain. Scarce now in the first edition.

On the ffep, in part, "To the gentleman with ferment intelligibility and sublime noises Harold C Schonberg" and then a couple of lines in a foreign language and then signed "Valentine Stein Sunday 24 - June - 1973 (from Salina, Kansas)." Fayette County lies southeast of Austin & Bastrop. Fine copy. Possibly no dust jacket issued. Very scarce.
