Carte de Visite of Abraham Lincoln, unknown photographer. A scape on the upper left of the front, visible in the first photograph. Inscribed on the back:"Sent during the Civil War to Mrs. Helen E. Greig, of Albany, N. Y. by President Lincoln, for services rendered to the soldiers. Given to Mrs. Ada Le Page by Mrs Grieg, & by Mrs. Le Page to her nephew, Edward G. Clapham, Aug. 1906.". All three names can be identified as associated with the Albany NY at the time.(1) There is a Helen E. Greig, born Albany, NY, died Mar 17 1906 age 76, buried in the Albany Rural Cemetery, Cemetery Avenue Menands, NY,(2) In the same cemetery there is an Ada Clapha [sic?] Le Page b. Dec 18 1849, died Feb 27, 1932 at Albany. (3) There was an Edward G. Clapham 1878-1962, the son of Charles Sumner Clapham. Charles was brother to Ada Clapham Le Page.

Description:
List of persons drafted from the town of Damariscotta, Maine for the Draft of July 1863. A single sheet of thin onionskin-type paper, printed on one side, titled "Names of those Drafted in the town of Damariscotta." 2 7/8 inches by 10 3/8 inches.
The draft is documented in the Report of the Adjutant General of the State of Maine 1863, Appendix E page 47. Damariscotta was combined with Bremen to form the 25th subdistrict of the third congressional district. A total of 59 men were drafted from the two towns. From the above list 1 person (Ira Hunt) actually entered service; 13 of the names on the list are identified as having paid the commutation fee of $300.00. The names of those exempted, (21 from both towns) or who failed to report (12 from both towns) are not listed in the report. Of the 37 names on the list 23 were either exempt or failed to report. 25 of the names can be matched to entries in Vital Records of Old Bristol and Nobleboro, Maine Vol 1 Births and Deaths.
