Small ex libris label to front pastedown of Leo S. Olschki, antiquarian bookseller, of Florence. Engraved title page. With 42 full-page finely engraved anatomical plates. Vol. I is the 'New Edition' (with Supplement); vols. II & III are First Editions (a fourth volume appeared in 1793). A collection of witty and amusing pieces following on from 'The New Foundling Hospital for Wit', containing poems, epigrams, quotes and letters from various sources, many of the authors are credited. John Philips (1676 - 1709) was a Herefordshire man, a scholar and a poet, who died prematurely as the result of delicate health (ironically from consumption).
