Bill of lading for "Romance of the Sea", one of several clipper ships owned by the Timothy Davis & Co.'s Line out of San Francisco, California. This particular clipper was launched November 15, 1853, and would mysteriously disappear en route to San Francisco after leaving Hong Kong in 1863. Printed bill of lading (8.5" by 10.5"), completed in ink manuscript and stamped with official T.D. & Co. red ink stamp.

Her mother was from a prominent, pioneering Missouri family, the Prices. Her grandfather Robert Beverly Price was a well-known banker and gentleman farmer, who was active in local politics. He was also greatly involved in the financial success of his alma mater, the University of Missouri. He served as Treasurer for the university for over forty-five years. Emily herself attended the university in 1907. On her father's side of the family, she was a part of one of the most powerful political families of the 19th century, the Blairs. The hand written parchment sheet with rules and regulations of a Juvenile Society in Scarborough, England. The manuscripts contains six rules for the Society, such as when and where they will meet, voting in a president, voting on topics of discussion, new members or rules, member dues and possible fines imposed, At the base, the page is signed by all the current member, twelve men. While the rules and regulations to not state the ways in which they hope the society will benefit youth, it is most likely that this interest in child welfare coincided with whatever religious institution they attended. The top of the manuscript has decorative elements to used to embellish the title. Measures 29 3/4" x 9"

Inscribed inside cover "Charles GAble in Lehigh Township Northampton County state of Pennsylvania in Nrth America in the year of our Lord one thousand eight hundred and fifty, April 21, 1850." What follows is an accounting of his work ledger including the employer, the day, aount of time the activity and his pay in cents. Work included planting, hawling, mowing grass, hawling dung , thrashing, etc. and concluding with carpenter work. for the final few months through April 1852. The wood cut on the front cover depicts a lamp lighter. The back cover promotes Brower, Hayes & Co., Booksellers and Stationers. Measures 7 3/4" x 6".

It lists sold products such as apples and pears and payments for services, taxes, etc. Many of the entries include buyer or seller's name. The first entry is the purchase of Brewster Farm for $3,000. Shortly after L.L. De'Rochement purchased a portion of the farm for $700. The front cover has a large engraving of a hand holding a pen with a decorative border.
