Description:
What an amazingly well preserved scholarly volume, reprinted in 1978 from the 1897 edition in the Twin Brooks Series. James Bickersteth Mayor's commentary is generally recognized as one of the finest works on the epistle of James of all time. He writes: "In the Introduction I have stated my reasons for believing this Epistle to be the earliest of the books of the New Testament, written probably in the fifth decade of the Christian era by one who had been brought up with Jesus from his childhood and whose teaching is in many points identical with the actual words of our Lord as recorded in the Synoptic Gospels." Those with a good command of Greek will benefit most from this commentary, but even those with no Greek should find the massive introduction of interest.
Very good++. Actually opens as new! Almost no marks; minor marks on only two pages in this monumental work comprising a total of 516 pages (Intro. 260 pp./Commentary 256 pp.)! NO PO's name. ExLibris label on FEP. Spine without creases;… Read More

Description:
A must-buy for the serious Bible student! While an understanding of New Testament Greek is helpful, all Bible students will find this classic reference volume beneficial to Bible study as it provides the rich meaning of the New Testament words. The flyleaf of the dust jacket expresses it well: "It has been said that one must have a thorough knowledge of Greek before he can understand the New Testament. That is not quite true, but it is true that sound understanding of the Scriptures depends upon sound exegesis, and sound exegesis upon a firm textual and grammatical foundation. This indispensable Expository Dictionary supplies that foundation. The work of a scholar's whole lifetime, it is intended for non-specialists with little or no knowledge of Greek, and for the scholars as well. With renderings from both Authorized and American Revised Versions, and against the background of the original Greek, it is a dictionary, a concordance, and a commentary in one volume. There is no other book like it… Read More

Description:
Any Bible student, teacher or any Christian will find Machen's crystal-clear exposition/exegesis of the first three chapters of Galatians useful for study. This FIRST EDITION paperback is "An International Library of Philosophy and Theology Biblical And Theological Studies" edition. The core feature of this volume is that it makes available in convenient form, the "Notes on Biblical Exposition" which Dr. J. Gresham Machen published in the earlier 'Christianity Today' from January 1931 to February 1933. Students at Westminster Seminary have made profitable use of these Notes on Galatians 1:1 - 3:14 by following them, with minor inconvenience, through bound periodical volumes; but for many others who might greatly benefit from them, they have long been inaccessible. Here you will find a master exegete opening up important and essential material to help understand the import of the great Apostle on this vital portion of Scripture. "Machen wrote on Galatians to inform his students and to help Sunday… Read More

Description:
Greek is one of the richest of all languages, with an unrivaled power to express different shades of meaning. In this book, William Barclay, with concise and practical exegesis, examines many of the key words of the Greek New Testament, explaining what these words meant to the writers of the New Testament and to those who read and heard their message for the first time. This is a scholarly yet practical work written for the beginning Bible student, the advanced Bible student and/or pastor, not the Greek scholar. This 288 page volume combines two previous works by Barclay; A New Testament Wordbook and More New Testament Words, books previously published.
The William Barclay Library is a collection of books addressing the great issues of the Christian faith. As one of the world's most widely read interpreters of the Bible and its meaning, William Barclay devoted his life to helping people become more faithful disciples of Jesus Christ.

Description:
Though read, there are limited markings in this must-have reasonably priced New Testament commentary on Philippians. Scholarly, yet easy-to-read, Robertson provides verse-by-verse exposition of Philippians. The flyleaf states: "Dr. Robertson brings to the study of any New Testament passage the ripest Greek scholarship that the world knows. But there is another quality for interpreting the Word of God, equally as necessary…sympathetic spiritual insight…. Dr. Robertson hs also this qualification for unfolding to us not the thought alone but the feeling also that makes forever living the epistle of the great apostle to the nation…. Each chapter treats a section of the epistle—explaining, illustrating, and applying the biblical text. The happiness associated with being a Christian…is emphasized throughout." First published, January 1917 by Revel, this is a 149-page hardback Broadman Press undated edition (most likely 1959 edition), "Revised and Edited by W. C. Strickland."
