This copy is one of the finest quality books online--AS NEW!
This is a beautiful 168-page hardbound 1ST Edition of this scarce and important Old Testament Bible commentary giving verse-by-verse exposition. Dr. Mays is both scholarly and generally considered conservative. This book is part of the critically acclaimed, The Old Testament Library series, by the Westminster Press. A general introduction is provided along with a bibliography, followed by verse-by-verse commentary. The Book of Amos was likely written between 760 and 753 B.C. Amos is a shepherd and a fruit picker from the Judean village of Tekoa when God calls him, even though he lacks an education or a priestly background. Amos' mission is directed to his neighbor to the north, Israel. His messages of impending doom and captivity for the nation because of her sins are largely unpopular and unheeded, however, because not since the days of Solomon have times been so good in Israel. Amos' ministry takes place while Jeroboam II reigns over… Read More

Study the Gospel of Mark on your own! Brand new 1st Edition!Zondervan's Illustrated Bible Backgrounds Commentary series is a biblically accurate and helpful tool for the Bible student who desires to understand both the text and culture. Garland's 116-page commentary provides a 'Bridging Contexts' and 'Contemporary Significance' format to help Bible students examine thoroughly each passage. There is an excellent chart contrasting the Passover and the Lord's Supper, Lists of Sidebars, an Index of Photos and Maps, and an exhaustive list of many abbreviations used in scripture study not found elsewhere.
Here's one review online: '…the book helps the readers to establish their Biblical knowledge to daily Christian life. From another aspect, there are not many exegeses books to the Mark (compared with other Books in the Bible). Therefore, Zondervan has devoted another precious message to self-study scriptures as well as ministering to modern Christians….' And another: "You will gain so much insight into… Read More

Description:
Old Testament prophecy comes alive in this great vintage collectible covering all of the Minor Prophets of the Old Testament.
This is a great 205-page volume providing an overview of each of the 12 Old Testament Minor Prophets. The flyleaf states: "The twelve so-called minor prophets of Israel here offer some major insights for today's world. 'When we get within them and behind their historical settings,' says Dr. Calkins, 'it is astonishing to discover how applicable they are to modern human and social problems. They are seen to have an almost startling relevancy to the world in which today we live." (And those comments were said more than 50 years ago yet still practical for the 21st century!)
This book examines one by one each Minor Prophet, scholarly examining their origin, content, and relevance to the culture.
A very good chronological table is given an entire page near the beginning of the book as well as a good 'names and subjects' index at the back of the book. There is also an expanded… Read More

Description:
With our world in great tumult, the Book of Revelation comes alive for all who read and study. Morris is easy-to-read.This 263-page commentary is in the Tyndale New Testament Commentary Series written by a renowned biblical scholar. Here is a thorough review found online: 'Revelation is probably one of the most feared books in the New Testament, and in the whole Bible. Its imagery is strange and often cryptic, and some don't quite know what to make of it--it seems easier to ignore it. But it's also a book that is full of stunning visions and memorable poetry. And Leon Morris opens the book up for the reader in a way that makes it approachable and understandable…. It's meant to be readable for layman as well as student and pastor. Morris is a recognized exegete on the Johanine literature, and brings learning to bear on this interesting book. He takes a … faithful approach to the book that seeks to discern its meaning and intent, both in its original setting and for readers today. And I think he… Read More

There is a 15-page Introduction, then an analysis of the Revelation in outline form, followed by the exegetical annotation. Included in appendices are The Seventy-Week Prophecy - so important to the study of Revelation that it is quoted here from Dr. Gaebelein's book on Daniel - and Prominent Names and Their Symbolical Meaning in Revelation."
