Ticknor and Fields, Boston, 1865. A New Edition. Hardcover. Very Good Condition/No Dust Jacket. Size: 5 3/4" x 3 3/4". 2-volume set (complete). Text body is clean, and free from previous owner annotation, underlining and highlighting. Two volumes finely bound with gilt-stamped leather over boards, all edges gilt, marbled end papers, gilded inner dentelles, Volume I has an engraved frontispiece portrait of Hawthorne. Vol I has 398 pages, Vol II has 428. Both volumes have wear to extremities, especially at corners and edges of spine, scuffs on rear board of Vol. II, some scratches on gilded text block edges, Vol I has foxing on frontispiece and a bookseller sticker for Philip and Solomon's Metropolitan Book Store of Washington D.C. on front pastedown.
