AMS Press, New York, 1970. Reprint Edition. Hardcover. Very Good/No Jacket. Size: 8vo - over 7¾" - 9¾" tall. Vol. I only, reprint of the edition of 1892. Scott (1811-1890), British poet and artist, is best known for his connection with Rossetti's circle. He spent the last years of his life working on these memoirs, which were published after his death. Red gilt stamped cloth over boards, xi + 356 pp., illustrated with etchings and photogravures, and facsimiles of sketches. This is a very nice copy, clean, no writing or marks, binding tight, but it has a faint musty odor, and the previous owner has written his name at the top of the front free end paper. This is a memorial tribute to H. Henry Baxter, January 18, 1818-February 17, 1884. Mr. Baxter was a railroad magnate, a bank founder, and quarry owner, and Adjutant General of the State of Vermont during the Civil War. Black leather, gilt lettering on cover, frontispiece of Baxter which may have been tipped in, or put back in after having been cut out. There is some foxing to the Baxter portrait with offsetting to the tissue. In a black paper covered hinged box with a label reading "Baxter Memorial" on the front. Box is chipped, in Good condition.
