This is a post-mortem publication of the diary of the archaeologist P. Stamatakis; it contains the results of his excavations at Chaeronea that revealed the polyandrium (tomb) of the 254 Theban soldiers (hierolochites) who fell in the battle of Chaeronea in 338 BC, fighting against Philip II of Macedonia and his son Alexander. The diary contains sketches and a full description of the condition of each skeleton. It also contains many drawings depicting the phases of the lion's restoration.
