In very good condition - has markings from use - due to differing weights in books, postage maybe adjusted at checkout. It all started in 1928, when a determined little imp in a faded gingham frock, threw a handful of cosmos seeds into her mother's prize rose bed. With glee and wonder she watched a riot of colour emerge over the following weeks. At five years old Babs was hooked! Gardening was to be her passion. For over 70 years, well-known author Babs Corbett has stamped her own flamboyant gardening style on more than twenty gardens - from the tiniest inner-city concrete yard to a sprawling garden in country Queensland. She was challenged along the way by bushfires, hail storms, drainage disasters, floods and pest plagues. All of which inspired a very original no-nonsense philosophy - and some ingenious solutions. This is more than an eco-wise gardening book, it is a journey of discovery about nature. Always mindful of tight budgets, Babs shows you how to transform any drab garden into a showpiece,… Read More

Description:
In very good condition - has markings from use - due to differing weights in books, postage maybe adjusted at checkout.Plants can be flamboyant and voluptuous, funny and frivolous, even shy and retiring, but do they really have personalities? They most certainly do, according to plantswoman Carol Klein, who has been growing, propagating and showing plants for more than thirty years. In Plant Personalities, she demonstrates how understanding their needs and giving them the best conditions in which to thrive enables plants to develop their true characters - the qualities that make them what they are - or who they are.Personality traits are as valueable as height, habit and flower colour when choosing which plants to grow and how to grow them. Good-natured, bread-and-butter plants contribute to the overall picture for months, while others are fleeting, shooting to stardom for a brief but breathtaking performance. Wafty whisperers add a touch of frivolity, bringing rustling rhythms to beds and borders.… Read More

In good condition - has markings from use - due to differing weights in books, postage maybe adjusted at checkout.Bright light is essential for the healthy growth of many of the best known houseplants, such as geraniums and poinsettias, and on a windowsill or beside a sunny window is a favorite place for displaying indoor plants to best advantage. However, many houseplants do not thrive in direct sunshine. This book lists over 80 plants that the home owner will find perfect for these conditions, and which require only routine care and attention. Each plant is given both its Latin botanical name and its common name if it has one. Key features are summarized by at-a-glance symbols and a full description to give information on the appearance of the plant, its origin, flowering season and needs. 80 illustrations in full color provide an invaluable aid to identification. The Houseplant Library takes specific household conditions or plant characteristics and lists in a comprehensive A-Z those plants that… Read More

I grew up in the mountains inland from Gloucester in New South Wales where my family sharefarmed land belonging to one of the large old companies which owned holdings there. In those days of the great depression I lived with the rainforest growing almost to the back door. The rainforest was being continuously felled in those days to make way for more dairy and beef production.
Even before school age I gained an interest in those marvellous plants growing on the trees and aided by devoted parents I had quite an established collection of the native orchids of the area by 1937-38.
My working life 'till coming to Queensland was spend on the land in the Gloucester-Taree area of the Manning River Valley. Barbara and I married in 1957 and as our family grew up we became more involved in the forests of the area as our children shared our love of the bush and nature itself: plus the joy of bird… Read More
