Court of Quarter Sessions in Sept. 1858 to lay out a road in Delaware Township report on 11 Feb. 1859 that they have laid out a road from McAllisterville to John Landis' saw mill, then through lands of John Branthoffer to the public road that runs from East Salem to Liverpool. The court approved it on 13 March 1860. #2: The people appointed by the Juniata Co. Court of Quarter Sessions in April 1859 to lay out a road from Crossroad Schoolhouse to Salem and to Goodville report on 10 Dec. 1859 that they have laid out the road, which runs along lands of the heirs of John Branthoffer (who had died on 28 March 1859). Near Fine. 5 handwritten letters to William Ward, 1873-1879, regarding the Philadelphia and Chester County Railroad, which existed from 1872 to 1885; it was succeeded by the Philadelphia Midland Railroad. William Ward was one of the organizers of the Philadelphia and Chester County Railroad and in 1874 was the president and treasurer pro tem. Letters #1 and #2 (Sept. 5 and Dec. 5, 1873) are from Jos. H. McKeehan, an attorney in Philadelphia, who is writing about deliquent subscribers to the railroad. Letter #3 (Dec. 18, 1873) is from the Village Record, a newspaper in West Chester, Pa., with a copy of the advertisement that ran in the paper listing the dates that instalments from railroad subscribers were due in 1872. Sir Leslie Ward (1851-1922), English caricaturist and portrait painter, signed his works 'Spy.' Sir Frederick Peel (1823-1906), second son of Prime Minister Sir Robert Peel, was first elected to Parliament in 1849 for Leominster; later he represented Bury. He was appointed to the Railway and Canal Commission at its establishemnet in 1873 and remained a commissioner until his death. New York: L.H. Biglow & Co., printers, 1869. Paperback. Good -. 32 p.; 23 cm. Front wrapper reproduces title page within decorative border. The Lykens Valley Railroad and Coal Company was incorporated in Pennsylvania in 1830; Thomas P. Cope was the first president. It ran from Millersburg to Williamstown and was the fourth in the United States and the first in Dauphin County to carry anthracite coal. By 1845 the line had to be regraded and relaid. It merged into the Penndel Co. in 1956. Written at the head of the front wrapper: "Preserve with Care." Very scarce. In Good- Condition: wrapper is lightly soiled; front wrapper is detached but present, with closed 4-cm. tear from gutter edge; somewhat brittle, with chipping at edges and separations at gutters; a few notations internally; otherwise, clean.

There is information about each steamboat on the inside of the folder. This was a premium offered by Cities Service Oil Co., which in 1964 became CITGO. Franklin Benjamin Gowen (1836-1889) served as president of the Philadelphia and Reading Railroad from 1870 to 1884 and again briefly in 1886. During his presidency, he was responsible for the railroad illegally running its own mining operations and for violent and indiscriminate attacks on the Molly Maguires and mineworkers in general. In this speech, Gowen argued against aspects of a bill to control railroad freight discrimination, proposed by Willis James Hulings (1850-1924), representative from Venango County in the Pennsylvania legislature. The text of the bill in included here; it was enacted. Scarce. In Very Good- Condition: minor loss over lower spine; wrapper lightly soiled; dampstain at lower edge of final 3 leaves and back wrapper; one vertical creased throughout; otherwise, clean and solid.
