"The Llewellyn Powell Collection of Early Technology was established in 1956 by the late Mrs Florence Ann Elizabeth Powell in memory of her husband who was a distinguished engineer. The collection contains 'early and significant works illustrative of the history of engineering'. Encyclopedias and journals are also included and from time to time when suitable books become available they are purchased for the Collection. Unfortunately in 1975 the Collection suffered a serious loss when a large number of books were stolen. Many were recovered but sadly those not returned were the old works and those of most historic value.
