The first volume has some loss to the head and heel of the spine with a portion toward the bottom reattached; the second volume has some loss of cloth to the front joint. Very Good set. Two volumes in publisher's brown cloth; eight pages of terminal ads in the second volume. BAL 13658. Melville's third book, issued about a month after the three-volume London edition, and his first major full-length fiction, a novel based on his whaling voyage experiences in the South Seas.
