Description:
W H Griffin & Co., Pietermaritzburg, Natal, 1893. First Edition. Hardcover. Poor/No Jacket. 242 pages (complete). A resolute copy of this first edition of Ingram's second book. Ingram was an exceptionally adventurous man. He was particularly welcomed by the black peoples in South Africa with whom he worked and lived for many years. This book, written during his eventual retirement in Pietermaritzburg was a bestseller. This copy has been much owned. The covers are much worn, marked, stained from handling and storage. They are sound and sure. Within, the contents are worn and marked throughout by use. A signature on the first free page has been clipped away. The pages, despite their wear and marks are amiable, benign, placid, certain, generous, clear and may be read with contentment and facility. fk.
