Eldon Deane. 8vo, burgundy cloth decorated in gilt - a lovely binding designed by Amy Sacker - top edge gilt, 390 pages. VERY GOOD+ / no jacket: light rubbing to the spine extremities, owner bookplate on front pastedown, clean and tight throughout, a very nice copy of this travelogue through the cathedrals of southern England, including Chichester, Winchester, Salisbury, Wells, Glastonbury, Exeter; Bath and Stonehenge are also visited.

GOOD+ / no jacket: edgewear to spine extremities and corners with small tears, gilt on spine and front cover is rubbed and dulled, internally clean and tight with only a bookstore notation on first blank page.

No date, but list of Winchester Mayors goes to 1881, Dean John Bramston was in office 1872-1883, and list of modern improvements goes to 1881, so likely this Guide is from 1881. 12mo, illustrated paper wraps, 102 pages, b/w engravings throughout, 5 fold-outs (map, Cathedral plan, larger illustrations). Condition: GOOD+ with some chipping to cover edges, spine head and tail, light soiling to covers, internally clean and tight excepting a very few foxing stains to title page. A terrific piece of history. Includes information on the Cathedral, The College, St. Cross, King's Castle, Hyde Abbey, Bishop's Castle, City Cross, Westgate, Guildhall, etc. Mention of Jane Austen's monument is on page 11.

[Originally published in 1935]. 8vo, stapled wraps, 115 pages, b/w illustrations throughout, color illus on front and rear covers (lithographed in Nova Scotia). Condition: VERY GOOD with small chip at spine tail, slight edgewear, staples on title page slight rusty. A terrific piece of Canadian memorabilia. On the cover: "Nova Scotia has the proud distinction of being the only Province of the Dominion of Canada and the first Colony of Great Britain to possess a flag of its own. The Flag of Nova Scotia traces its origins to the Charter of New Scotland granted in 1621 to Sir William Alexander (afterwards the Earl of Stirling) by King James VI of Scotland and I of England.

Condition: VERY GOOD / no jacket: a few scuff marks to the covers, some pages are uncut and a handful, opened by an idiot, have small chips; faint discoloring to the overhanging pages, very faint smattering of foxing but plates are unaffected. A lovely book really and 7000 miles of delightful British adventures await you.

Very Good/No Jacket. 1st edition [GHD symbol under copyright date], 8vo, purple cloth with gilt illustration and titles, 434 pages, illustrated with b/w photographs throughout, index. Condition is VERY GOOD / no jacket: spine is lightly sunned, internally clean and tight, one flaw: there is a 1" tear through pages 213-293 at the bottom spine edge, the source of which is completely baffling (a knife maybe?). It does not affect any text or images, and otherwise the book is a lovely addition to your essential London collection. As the author says in her first chapter: "Each man, they say, discovers his own London. I suppose there is no city boasts so many discoverers, nor any city loved for so many different reasons so logically sustained, nor any place to which visitors so various can claim kinship. London, in a sense, belongs to us all." (p17)

Part of the Newman TravelTalks series, this is an extensive look at a pre-World War II London.
