The Gebbie Publishing Co. Limited, Philadelphia, 1896.
"Fifty copies only of this Carnegie Edition have been printed for sale, each of which will be numbered." This is copy number 36 of 50, with each volume noted and stamped with Gebbie's seal. The total set features 12 books, but there are 6 volumes with 2 parts per volume.
This truly is a beautiful bookset! Full brown leather, fine binding with 5 raised bands on the spine. Gilt tooling and finish on the front and rear covers, the spine, edges, textblock, and inner pastedown edges. Red satin endpapers have small wrinkles or waves. In addition to the red satin pastedowns and endpapers, each volume comes with a red ribbon marker and a few of them are frayed at the ends. The leather hardcovers on this 265 year old book show wear reflective of its age to include heavy cracks in the leather, most notably the external hinges where the binding cords are showing, which will eventually cause the covers to detach. Copyright 1889, published 1889 by Macmillan and Co. (New York). 1st Edition, 1st Printing with matching publication and copyright dates. Blue hardcovers show heavy wear such as heavily bumped and worn-through corners and edges, torn spine head and tail, spine lean, tanning to the edges and spine, spots and soiling, and nicks/scratches. Hardcovers also bow out at the topedge and bow in at the foreedge. Binding has several hard cracks such as those found at pages 80 and 160. Textblock and pages are tanning. There are smudges and small smear marks at the front endpapers, but there does not appear to be any writing in the text. Overall, the book is in Acceptable/Poor condition.

Published in 1883 by Government Printing Office by order of the Bureau of Navigation, Navy Department (Washington); authored by John T. Sullivan, Lieutenant, U. S. Navy. Blue hardcovers are worn-through at the corners, nicked along the edges, with bumped corners and a sunfaded/darkened spine. Tears to the hardcover at the spine head and tail. Hard creases at the front and rear inner hinges. Tanning pages and sagging textblock. Pages throughout the volume have been dog-eared, page 74 has a 1/2" nick, page 88 has a 1" tear at the foreedge. Maps at the rear of the volume are loose and the second map is creased. There are other foldout maps throughout the book. Overall, it is in Good condition.

Oversized navy blue hardcover shows significant wear to include worn-through corners, worn-through spine head and top front cover hinge, and multiple worn spots on the rear. Heavily bumped corners. Cover also has scratches, impressions, and spots. Weak rear hinge where a crack is starting to form. Spots on the top-edge of the textblock. Frontispiece page is completely detached. Page 113 has a 1-inch tear at the foreedge. Previous owner's name and date on the front free endpaper; no other writing. Overall, it is in Good minus (G-) condition.

There are nicks and scratches to all three sides of the textblock. There are notations on the front endpaper and pastedown and other markings can be found in each volume. Overall, it is in Good minus (G-) condition.
