Not Given, 1688. Not Given . Hardcover. Good+/No Jacket. This pamphlet, 16 pages, collated in quarto has been put into hard navy boards with a leather spine label lettered in gilt. The above grade may be thought of as a compromise between the books newish covers, pastedowns and endsheets and the very aged, rough text. Previous owner has penciled Halifax's name, Wing # H291, and the date 1688 at top of sheet number 1, which consists of title and text only. No cover sheet or printing/data, date are present. There is a tiny penned note at the last sheets top. While all text is reasonably legible, the bottom edge of the pages are chipped gently up almost to the texts lower extremity. Margins at top and side average 3/4 inch. Age darkening and graying are present throughout, and the text is quite edgeworn as may seem obvious from the bottoms description. Book measures 9 x 7". The navy boards have a crisp, unbumped, newish appearance.

This is a slender little pamphlet reworked in neat pale green boards, boards measure 7 7/8 x 6 3/8". The Wing #821, placements, and SJ name are penciled lightly on first, replaced, endsheet. The spine label is black leather with gilt and a hint of wear at its edges The reworking with beige pastedowns and endsheets is very nicely done and compliments the lightly age darkened but largely unfoxed text. The item is designated in the notes that accompanied it, and compares accurately with Wing A3754. The prior owners notes (Wings are penciled in the margin of the title page) reference "McAlpin 30.1 x 19.2 cm, (1) 67p. portr. frontisp, appointment of printer on flyleaf." The books measure 14" x 9", collation is folio. The previous owners notes read , "1/2 morocco." The style is spine and tips(diagonally) done in leather, balance in marbled green/tan paper, pastedowns and endsheets are heavy cream tone stock. Printing data on volume 1 "Printed for Thomas Ward in the Inner-Temple lane-1724." the collector has penciled, on the first pastedown, "2 vols, first edition, RCTY" (sic). Cambridge: Rampant Lions Press, 1974. 1st Edition . Pamphlet w/ Stiff Cover, Wraps. Very Good+/No Jacket. Re edition given here as first. RL apparently does many limiteds, this pamphlet does not appear to be one. No additional printings, no statement. Mcbride and Ahearn do not seem to say, though the house may be associated with Cambrige University and the item has Same Date (1974) on title page and copyright page. Given its extraordinary scarcity as well, 1st edition thus seems more than likely. A fresh, unmarked copy done in mustard stiff paper covers with sewn binding rather than saddle stitch. The back panel has very minor wave area which I suspect is bindery or storage issue, the cover paper has other hard to see flaws, newish at first glance.

London: John Wilkie, 1760. 1st Edition . Hardcover. Very Good-/No Jacket. 8vo - over 7¾" - 9¾" tall. Full restoration with newish hardcover green boards has been performed. Queerly, the heavily foxed endsheets and pastedowns have a different character from the body of the text, and must be presumed long ago replaced. On further consideration, the darkening of the endsheets seems likely to have derived from a light older leather cover with some transfer to the new pastedowns, the shape for the end sheet darkening seems right for this. The grade should be thought of as a compromise twixt the aged pamphlets text and the newish boards. It appears that the leather spine label may have come from the older version, it is a scarred marroon leather with gilt lettering. Boards measure 8 3/8 x 5 3/8. London: Baldwyn, 1817. Later Printing . Full-Leather. Poor/No Jacket. This very old 525 plus page book is rough and is sold for its text only. Book is 8 1/2" X 5 1/2." The first pastedown is partially removed and has left a homely surface, first endsheets severely foxed, as are last sheets. Rear leather board fully detached, front board cracked but holding, if gappy. The text is complete with frontispiece T.P., text, index. Spine bottom chipped. Much aged, battered charm here. Perhaps a good candidate for restoration?

The prior owner/collector's notes, which appear on a loose slip and are also fairly lightly pencilled on the first endsheet read as follows, "Ralph J. $65.00, Goldsmith 7961, Hanson 5686, Hollander 1376, Kress 4671." There is an erased note first pastedown. Verso of last endhseet has several letters darkly pencilled, small pencilled notation last pastedown. Below the blank last endsheet's pencilled letters is a chip of paper out of the book's field, about the size of a thumbprint. The last unpaginated sheet immediately prior to this blank endsheet is errata; this sheet is verso the last page of text, numbered 535.The text of the book begins at first page, unpaginated, (collation code B) preceeded by four pages of title page, preface, and contents.
