First Printing of the First Edition. Has an oily spill inside, and some scratches on the backside of the hard cover. Several pages have double creases at the bottom corner and several pages are discolored from newspaper recipes laid in. The former owner's award winning recipe which was published in The Chicago Tribune's $5 Favorite Recipe is included. No dust jacket. Please see photos.

This book is in very nice condition with bright gold lettering. There is the slightest bit of rubbing to the corners and spine ends and a small spot on the ffep. No personalization or writing inside. There was a small piece of paper laid in between the top of the copyright and dedication page which discolored the paper. See photos. (The rest is a shadow). Published in 1951. A good way to be self taught if you have general skills.

The cloth on the cover is split along the binding on both sides but the inside of the book is not. Title page is present but detached with multiple creases. Binder edition. Book is complete. Some discoloration to pages and some cooking spots. Tabs have some wear. This picture cook book is revised and enlarged. 1956, Second Edition, fourth printing, so stated.

Fair or Poor condition. Pages are fragile and chipping at the end, has stains, pencil marks at favorite recipes and ads plus some scribbling in pencil. Names of contributors and an abundance of advertisements from local businesses in Aurora, IL. A far west suburb of Chicago. 168 pages

Author's signed bookplate is printed with her full name and Good wishes for good cooking and is signed Florence Hirschfeld on the front end paper. No other name is present. Top edge of hardcover book is red. Stated First Edition with an R after it. Published in 1965. Book is in Very Good condition, dust jacket is Fair. The last photograph lists Jerry Pinkney as the Jacket Designer. It also shows the large tear on the backside but looks as if a piece is missing. It was creased under but present. Please see other photos for dust jacket issues. The bookplate was apparently creased before being attached and has a smudge by the bottom corner with a small crease underneath it on the ffep. The top corners of the book bend inward. Some wear to board edges at spine and corners. Book is clean and in nice condition. The back cover has slight fading near the top. All hardcover books ship in a box. Tracking provided on all orders.

Enlarged to 72 pages with 205 recipes. Name written on wrapper and date 1910. Wrapper has some soiling and creased corners, small tears at top and bottom edges of spine. About a half inch closed tear at top edge of back wrapper. No writing inside, corner edges are bent. Inside of back wrapper is two pieces of tape where something the size of a bookmark was removed.

Good- may be generous but the book appears complete and does not contain writing other than a personalization on the ffep in pencil which is laid in. A well used cook book with cracked hinges, dog eared pages, stains, and very rubbed hardcover. Prize winning recipes for every day of the year which was supposed to not exceed $500 for a family of five. Obviously this is not a new facsimile for those of you who collect cookbooks. Interesting product ads, a Richelieu Brand ad is attached to the back cover with a New Product Flour ad opposite. No free back end paper. 607 pages including index. Antique fragile book ships in a box.

This is a book club edition. A very complete book with 477 pages including index. Dust jacket was not folded properly at the flaps. Some edgewear and a couple of small stains with a tear at the bottom back corner. Hardcover book is clean with the exception of a small water stain at bottom inside cover by spine, see photo. No writing but a couple of page corners creased. Foredge has a scrape.

A depression era home baking course by the General Foods Cooking School of the air host Francis Lee Barton. Softcover book has stains on the wrapper and wear to edges and corners. Most pages yellowed from age with some stains. The first two pages have creases at the top and bottom corners. Pages are intact - ring bound. Appears complete, no page numbers or free end papers.

This spiral bound softcover is sound/usable but has many stains. The front wrapper has a large crease. There is a slit in the spiral spine and a tear in the plastic overlay.
Appears to be mid century since some of the many advertisers' phone numbers start with letters and it was published before zip codes. The names of the recipe contributors are listed.
The Chicago Junior School was
founded in St. Joe MI. in 1913 and moved to Elgin, IL. in 1923. It "provided a home and a school for boys and girls of grade school age who temporarily lack adequate home environment and to inspire them with ideals of right living." It later became the Fox River Country Day School.
It was in existence for 98 years until 2011. In 2012 the bank foreclosed on the school which was architecturally significant with buildings designed by John Van Bergen.
