Description:
Philadelphia: J.B. Lippincott Company, 1962. First edition. Very Good/very good. Wallace Stevens had attained a place of importance in twentieth-century literature even before he died in 1955; he continues to serve as a model for younger poeets and the audience for his work is constantly increasing. At the same time, he remains something of an enigma: he has the reputation of being a difficult poet, a critic's poet. In this book the editors have gathered together examples of the attempt to read the enigma of Wallace Stevens, to explicate the difficulty - 19 essays covering a span of more than 40 years from 1920 to 1961. Green boardss with writing to spine and front cover. Some bumping and shelf wear.Dj mylar covered, some bumping to corners and top and bottom of spine. Foxed back cover. Contains a compliments card from the publishers. Nice tight binding and clean pages. First Edition AB55

New York: E P Dutton & Co., undated. Hardback. Very Good. This is a collection of Hymns by this renowned poet who was widely known on both sides of the atlantic. Its likely that 4 million of her books were published between 1870 and 1910. She was so well known that those who knew her then would be shocked at her now obscurity. She was also a musician. Green Boards on this little book with beautifully illustrated cover. Some bumping to the corners and shelf wear. The pages are card and each hymn has ab illustration. The pages are very clean and the binding is tight. The inside front and back covers are grey floral. There is no date, but this work was published in !886 and being published by E P Dutton would perhaps put it around this period. A very lovely little hymn book. AB82
