The Ascent of Eli Israel and Other Stories (SIGNED).

By Papernick, Jon.

New York: Arcade Publishing, 2002. First Edition, First Printing Blue cloth with black paper spine AS NEW in AS NEW DJ 8vo (5-1/2 x 8-1/2), 182 pp. Hardbound book AS NEW in glossy pictorial DJ. DJ looks AS NEW, but has some discoloring on the inside of DJ -- moderate stain on top and bottom of inside of DJ -- the paper under the stain is not coated. Have no idea what caused it, but is not perceptible in viewing or handling the book unless DJ is opened and taken off the book and mylar protective cover removed. SIGNED by the author on the title page. Seven short stories, each dealing with life in contemporary Israel, whether speaking as Arab or Jew or Israeli or Palestinian or American... the author takes us into a place both beautiful and also terrifying -- not as a scary story, but terrifying as only living in today's Holy Land can be -- a place of religious centers where sudden death is always a fact of daily life. Brilliant.
