Description:
Indianapolis: Shortridge High School, 1915. Paperback. [136p] 8x11inches, a variety of illustrations including tipped-in sepia photo-portraits reproduced in offset, and a good woodblock print in three colors midway through text (by one Paul Long); autographs at rear, ads, texts use a faux-Oriental design; punchholed for binding semi-Asian style, decorative cord is intact with a little fraying. The overlapping cover edges are, unfortunately, very worn and chipped; paperstock toned without fragility, a good (good-only) copy. Two very wonderful people graduated from Shortridge in the 1940s. Kurt Vonnegut, Jr. and my Mother! This predates both by 30 years.

Description:
Bloomington, IN: Helaine Victoria Press, 1989. Poster. 11x17 inch poster, printed by letterpress; very good but for small closed edge tear at lower left. Helaine Victoria Press, which took its name from the middle names of founders Jocelyn Helaine Cohen and Nancy Taylor Victoria Poore, published broadsides, posters, and other formats of work, but was best known for its women's history postcard series. It started with an offset press in Santa Monica but switched to an 80-year old cast iron letterpress, noted by Cohen as "the method which was standard when we were trying to get the vote." The press later moved to Indiana, and was ultimately donated to the Women's Rights National Historical Park in Seneca Falls, New York, where the letterpress now resides.

Description:
[Indianapolis?]: n.pub, 1934. Pamphlet. 111p., staplebound pamphlet, covers mildly worn and smudged with small corner chip. William P. Hapgood established the Columbia Conserve Company and instituted an employee ownership program in 1917. After years of success, the impact of the Great Depression was severe, and the company undertook reforms that some of the workers, represented by the Committee of Four, criticized as infringements on democratic control. Norman Hapgood, a brother of the founder, here argues that those steps were necessary to keep the firm in business, and points to rising profits as evidence of their success. For details of the company's unprecedented experiments in industrial democracy, its years of success, and its eventual schism and sale to a larger company, see Kim McQuaid's 1976 article in Labor History, "Industry and the co-operative commonwealth: William P. Hapgood and the Columbia Conserve Company, 1917-1943.".
